Congratulations to Castellano's team for not only winning the league but the championship on Saturday. Yes, it was a threepeat.

Saturdays playoffs started with great weather and some great playing softball.
George/Kaplan gave Castellano a run for it's money by losing by one run and putting Castellano in the finals while McBride and Sieczkowski/Lynch had a competitive game with lots of runs and great plays but Sieczkowski/Lynch pulled ahead to win and go against Castellano for the championship.
WHAT A GAME!
With both teams only having 15 minutes break, they started .Castellano came out hitting and scored big then Sieczkowski/Lynch came adn kept up but Castellano pulled ahead and won the game.

6 v 7 - 6 won, 11-10....
This game was real nail biter.. The Sommerville team got off to a good start and earned some fast runs in the early innings with some great hitting. After a calm, the McBride bats came to life!! In a few quick innings, they dominated and gained the lead with some great hits and fielding. The Sommerville never gave up and had a great "last licks", some great hitting and fielding resulted in advancing the tying run to 3rd. That's where it ended folks. The Sommerville team lost a great opportunity in the early innings when a base running blunder ended a potentially high scoring inning by getting into a triple play with bases loaded. The 3rd base coach could have been a little more vocal.

Games of 7/5 & 7/6 (games of 7/5 played on 7/7 due to rain)
8 v 3 - 8 won 12-4
4 v 8 - 4 won 11-2
5 v 1 - 1 won, 7-4
7 v 2 - 2 won, 17-5
This game was moved to the opposite side of the park at Apple Lane field due to a persistent puddle on 1st base on the regular field. The Sommerville team got on the boards with 4 quick runs with their 1st at bats. But were quickly matched by the defending champs in the next inning having to endure several runs against as a result of some great, great hits and fielding errors. Some terrific at-bats from the Castellano team found the gaps early in the game and continued to seek them out until the end. The experienced opponents proved to be too much for the ailing Somerville team who were plagued with some pulled muscles and ailing players. The Sommerville team never game up and the girls gave 100%. Do not discount this Sommerville team, with some practice hitting and fielding, they can perhaps pull it together to be serious contenders for the playoffs!!!

Games of 7/12& 7/13 (games of 7/12 played on 7/14 due to rain)
9 v 7 - 9 won- 16-1
The double header for the Sommerville team started out as a disaster with the Colby team dominating early on. Great hitting and fielding earned them the right to go home early with a win via the 15 run rule in 6th inning.

7 v 8 - 8 won- 8-5
"Since you've been gone", Stac, the Sommerville team couldn't find a way to win this game. The game proved to be frustrating for the weary girls as they played their second game of the evening. The team was still injured and playing short for the 4th time this season. The crafty George/Kaplan team came back with some nice home runs and also some gap busters in the middle innings. The Sommerville team came back and earned a few but it wasn't enough. They gave up some terrific opportunities by batters leaving runners on 2nd and 3rd and avoidable double plays.
3 v 2, 2 won - 12-3
1 v 6, 1 won - 14-8
4 v 5, 4 won by forfeit
6v 9 (make up from last week), both get a loss due to forfeit, not enough players

Games of 7/19 & 7/20
7 v 3 - 7 won, 7-6
It was good to see the Sommerville team bring a full squad. As a result, they were confident and ready to do battle. The Sommervilles gained the lead, but then the Carrol team came back with some solid hits and eventually tied it up. It was getting dark and the umpire anxious to finish, so the teams were lucky to get the last inning in or a tie would have resulted. Mary from the Sommerville team knocked in the tie-breaker. The Sommerville team held the field to win their first game.
8 v 1 - 8 won, 14-7
Both teams started off good but the 2nd inning came and Sieczkowski/Lynch choked with too many errors and George/Kaplan pulled way ahead. Sieczkowsk/Lynch regrouped and came back but not enough for the win. Carolyn Stillwagon did have her second home run off the season. All in all, good times for
everyone.
.
9 v 5 - 9 won, 12-1
2 v 4, 2 won - 19-0
6 v 2, 6 won - 17-16

Games of 7/26& 7/27
1 v 7 - 1 won, 16-9
The Sommerville team got into early trouble with a few long innings and trouble in the outfield while trying to run down some great hits. Sieczkowski/Lynch had some athletic ladies out there for great fielding as well as hitting, they gained the early lead and kept it the whole game. The Sommerville team made a few adjustments and then had some good hits and gained 9, but not enough for the win. All in all, "good times" as usual.
3 v 6 - 6 won, 20-0
8 v 5 - 8 won, 11-5
1 v 4 - 1 won, 11-6
Good game from Sieczkowski/Lynch and Fanti at HPP.Sieczkowski/Lynch came out hitting but Fanti was never too far behind. Home runs by Donna C., Carolyn S., Mo, and Donna S., helped Sieczkowski/Lynch take the lead. Fanti also had a home run but couldn't catch up.All in all, it's always a good game when these teams get together..
